FirstShowing.net describes the trailer as the third and final official preview. The site says another round of tickets went on sale alongside the new footage and that it published the trailer’s poster.

Outlook India puts the running time of the trailer at 2 minutes 41 seconds. Yahoo adds that Chalamet surprised fans at a Los Angeles trailer screening earlier in 2026 and joined Villeneuve to discuss the film.

The Release Date, IMAX Plans and the December Slate

IMAX is part of the sales message. Dark Horizons reports that the IMAX account described the film as presented in IMAX 70mm and linked to ticket sales. FirstShowing.net says the film has a wide IMAX rollout.

Outlook India says the film is set to clash with the Russo Brothers’ Avengers: Doomsday. Dark Horizons gives the Dune release as Dec. 18 in theaters.

The trailer is the final official trailer for the film, ahead of its Dec. 18 opening.

The Cast and Crew Behind the Film

Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides and Zendaya as Chani. Robert Pattinson joins as Scytale, a villain plotting against Paul’s rule, according to Yahoo, which says he joins the franchise. FirstShowing.net and Outlook India list him in the same role.

Florence Pugh plays Princess Irulan, Anya Taylor-Joy plays Alia Atreides and Javier Bardem returns as Stilgar, per Dark Horizons and Outlook India. Dark Horizons lists Jason Momoa as a new version of Duncan Idaho and Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica. Outlook India names the character as Hayt, a ghola, or cloned, version of Duncan Idaho, but does not name the actor.

Outlook India also lists Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck. Yahoo adds Isaach de Bankolé and Charlotte Rampling. FirstShowing.net names newcomers Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke.

Denis Villeneuve directs from a screenplay he wrote with Brian K. Vaughan. FirstShowing.net lists producers Cale Boyter, Tanya Lapointe, Joseph M. Caracciolo Jr., Brian Herbert, Kim Herbert, Byron Merritt, Mary Parent, Thomas Tull and Villeneuve. Outlook India credits Oscar winner Hans Zimmer with the score.

The trailer is the final official trailer for the film, ahead of its Dec. 18 opening.

What the Footage Establishes About the Story

The film is based on Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah, the sequel to his 1965 novel Dune, according to FirstShowing.net and Dark Horizons. Yahoo places the story nearly two decades after Paul takes control of the Imperium. Dark Horizons says the film begins seventeen years later, while SlashFilm says it picks up a couple of decades after Dune: Part Two ended.

Dark Horizons says Paul rules as Emperor and is married to Irulan, while his relationship with Chani continues and forces including the Bene Tleilax plot against him. It describes the Bene Tleilax as an arcane, xenophobic sect of genetic manipulators. FirstShowing.net says the greatest danger falls on Chani and the unborn heir to Paul’s dynasty.

Outlook India reports lines from the trailer. Irulan warns that an assassination attempt is coming and says Chani is involved. Scytale asks Chani whether she will betray her husband, and she answers that the “Fremen keep their word.”

In the same report, Paul tells Hayt that he has become what Chani swore to oppose and calls himself the enemy. Near the end, Chani says she is acting for their children and Paul replies that he is acting for her. The trailer also shows Chani embracing Paul in the desert.

How the Film Is Positioned as an Ending

Slashfilm notes that the previous film ended with Paul launching a holy war against the Imperium. It says the footage shows him as a genocidal dictator responsible for mass death, with Chani among his many enemies. Slashfilm adds that Herbert wrote the novel partly as a correction to readers who saw Paul as a hero.

Despite the title, Slashfilm says the film may not feel like a grand finale. It reports that Villeneuve told Empire the film is an epilogue to the first two, which he described as a diptych. Chalamet is quoted there saying the film is “its own beast.”

Dark Horizons reports that Villeneuve says the film leans more toward thriller and includes more action than the first two. FirstShowing.net describes it as even darker, even more berserk and even more epic than before.

On production, Dark Horizons says the film was primarily shot on 65mm film, with some sequences on 15/70mm IMAX film and desert scenes in IMAX Digital. It describes the project as the last film in this universe for both Chalamet and Villeneuve.
