Joy Behar complains about mammograms on ‘The View’: “You feel like you’re in wood shop”

Joy Behar and her co-hosts on The View did not hold back during their candid conversation about women’s healthcare during Friday’s (Dec. 5) broadcast.

The ladies were discussing Halle Berry‘s impassioned comments against California Governor Gavin Newsom in which she boldly stated that he “should not be president” after he vetoed The Menopause Care Equity Act.

“He’s not going to be governor forever,” Berry told an audience at the New York Times’ DealBook Summit this week, per Newsweek. “With the way he’s overlooked women—half the population—by devaluing us in mid-life, he probably should not be our next president, either.”

Behar openly complained about her experience with menopause and mammograms, telling her co-hosts, “I’m still in [menopause]. I’m so hot right now.”

“You’ve been in it for like 30 years,” Ana Navarro fired back.

After Navarro later noted that “women’s health gets overlooked in general,” Behar told her co-hosts that she got a mammogram just the day before. “They need to step it up over there,” she complained. “They put your boob in a vice.”

Behar is referencing the X-ray machine used to screen breasts tissue for cancer, which requires Patients to place the breast on a plate while another flat plate is used to compress it against the X-ray plate, per John Hopkins Medicine.

The ladies then began to throw some shade at men as they all complained about how uncomfortable these aspects of women’s healthcare remain.

“I know, how are we still smushing it?” Alyssa Farah Griffin asked about mammograms. “A man came up with that.”

“Joy,  if men had mammograms, they’d be in between two velvet pillows,” Navarro joked, earning a laugh from the audience. As Griffin pointed out that it feels like gynecologists are still using “tongs,” Behar joked, “You feel like you’re in a wood shop.”

Sunny Hostin was the only host to disagree with Berry’s point about Newsom.

“Speaking as someone who experiences my own personal summer often, I adore Halle Berry. I know Halle Berry. I disagree with her 100%,” Hostin said.

She said Newsom has “done a lot for women” and pointed out, “Gavin Newsom made it very clear that the reason he has vetoed this bill twice is because he’s asking them to tailor it for costs. Remember that in 2026, healthcare premiums are going to go up to almost $1,000 a family, so in an effort to keep costs down he has to veto it because they are not tailoring the bill.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
