Park Bo-Gum & Kim Nam-Gil To Star In Historical Drama From ‘A Taxi Driver’ Director Jang Hoon

Korean megastar singer, actor and performner Park Bo-Gum has been set to star in an untitled historical drama from A Taxi Driver director Jan Hoon, we can confirm.

Park Bo-Gum will star in the currently untitled film with fellow Korean star Kim Nam-Gil (Pandora). The project is described to us as in the vein of King Lear and Succession, charting the rivalry between two princes over a renowned Korean painting. Filming is due to begin in mid-October.

The project marks Jan Hoon’s first film since 2017 box office and critical hit A Taxi Driver, the second-highest grossing movie in the territory that year.

Park, the first and only actor to ever top the Forbes Korea Power Celebrity list, is known for film and TV projects including Hello Monster, Reply 1988, Love In The Moonlight, Encounter, Netflix’s When Life Gives You Tangerines and Good Boy. He released his first studio album in 2020. Kim Nam-Gil most recently starred in Netflix series Trigger.

We understand the film also marks one of the first to be backed by local giants Lotte and Plus M. following their agreement announced earlier this year to work on more projects together.

In May, Lotte Cinema and Megabox signed an MOU to merge their film-related subsidiaries, Lotte Cultureworks and Megabox JoongAng in a bid to help revitalize the Korean industry. The merger would see the integration of their respective film arms, Lotte Entertainment and PlusM Entertainment, and collaboration on various film projects.

Jang’s filmography also includes movies The Front Line and Secret Reunion. A Taxi Driver and The Front Line were both chosen as Korea’s Best International Feature Film Oscar selection.
