Stowaway found dead in landing gear of American Airlines plane
A stowaway was discovered dead inside the landing gear compartment of a North Carolina-bound American Airlines flight, according to authorities.
The unidentified body was found in the main landing gear compartment of the American Airlines plane that had recently arrived from Europe around 9 a.m. Sunday, according to a statement from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.
The aircraft was undergoing a maintenance check at Charlotte Douglas International Airport when the stowaway was found, according to police.
The person was pronounced dead by officers on the scene, cops said.
Detectives with the department’s Homicide Unit are now conducting a death investigation into the gruesome finding.
“We are working with law enforcement on its investigation,” American Airlines said in a statement to The Post.
The incident remains under investigation.
